NYC parking holidays and street-cleaning suspensions
A holiday can suspend alternate-side parking, or street cleaning. Other rules can still apply. Check the date, the signs, and the official NYC notice.
Start with NYC’s official calendar
NYC DOT publishes the street-cleaning suspension calendar for legal and religious holidays. It also links to current notices. Weather and emergencies can cause other changes.
Use the official calendar for the date you need. For current notices, check today or tomorrow.
Check which holiday rules apply
Most street-cleaning holidays suspend only cleaning rules. Major legal holidays can also change meter, stopping, standing, and parking rules. Restrictions that apply seven days a week can still apply. Read NYC DOT’s holiday explanation for the full conditions.
Alternate adjusts only known street cleaning rules for its holiday calendar. It does not apply every major-holiday exception. Check other restrictions and meter rules with NYC.
Read every sign before you leave
Check the whole block for signs and temporary notices. If signs cover the same area, NYC says the more restrictive rule applies. See NYC DOT’s parking regulations.
Check the exact street side where you plan to park. The other side can have different rules.

Save your parking address and street side. Check the next known move time and your reminder. Read the posted sign and official notices before you leave.
