How to plan a stay in Alternate
Choose when you’ll leave. Check the known rules for that street side before you go.
Read the steps
Plan a stay in Alternate checks your intended departure against the known rules for one NYC street side. Choose Leave at, read the result, and check the posted signs before leaving your car.
You can open the planner for saved parking or while browsing a place. Choosing a departure does not save parking or set a reminder. The screenshot shows example dates and rules, not current conditions at that address.
Open the planner for a street side
For saved parking, open Home and tap Can I stay until…?. This option appears when the saved place has a known street-side record. If you saved an address without a matching record, check the posted signs directly; the app cannot evaluate a street side it hasn’t identified.
Before parking, open Search, find a place, and choose the correct row under Nearby street sides. In Parking rules, tap Can I stay until…?. You don’t need to save a car there first.
At the top of Plan a stay, verify the street name, compass side, and cross streets. The other side of the street can have a different schedule.
Choose when you’ll leave
- Tap the date and time beside Leave at.
- Choose your intended departure in New York time. The planner supports today and the next 13 days.
- Alternatively, choose an available shortcut: 2 hours, Tonight, Tomorrow, or Weekend. A shortcut can be absent when its time has already passed.
Changing Leave at updates the result. Try the time you actually need, including the morning after an overnight stay. If the result identifies an earlier restriction, plan to leave before that restriction or check a different street side.
Read the result and its limits
The answer describes the rules Alternate can read for your chosen side and departure:
- No restriction found before you leave concerns the supported known rules. Check every posted sign and temporary notice for anything missing.
- Leave before a displayed time, or A restriction applies now, identifies a conflict to address before relying on that stay.
- Check the meter or Check the posted sign means the app cannot settle the whole stay for you. Read the meter instructions and applicable signs yourself.
The example screenshot finds a restriction before the chosen departure. It demonstrates the result format; its dates and times are not a recommendation for your car.
Holiday adjustments in Alternate cover street cleaning only. Other exceptions may differ. Use the parking holiday guide to find official guidance, and check today and tomorrow’s notices for current changes.
Check the source, then close
Open Rules and source to inspect the schedules, NYC DOT source, and Updated information. If the rules are old or incomplete, use Refresh rules or pull to refresh. A refresh needs a connection and does not guarantee that every temporary change is in the records.
Close the planner when you’re done. Your saved location, chosen move time, and reminder stay as they were. To record this parking place, follow the save parking guide. To choose a personal move time or check the scheduled alert, follow the move reminder guide.
Check the time you need.
